Đây là bài nói theo cặp (hỏi – đáp) về chuyện học hành ngày xưa, dựa trên gợi ý và bài nghe. Dưới đây là bài mẫu hoàn chỉnh cho từng ý, có thể dùng để hỏi một người lớn tuổi (ông/bà, bố/mẹ) hoặc đóng vai.

a) School time (When ...) – Giờ giấc học

*Q:* When did school usually start and finish in the past?

*A:* In the past, school usually started at 7 a.m. and finished at about 11 a.m. In the afternoon, many students had to help their families with housework or farming, so they only went to school in the morning.

b) School subjects (What ...) – Các môn học

*Q:* What subjects did you study at school?

*A:* We studied subjects such as Maths, Literature, History, Geography and Science. There weren't many subjects like today, and we didn't have Informatics or English in primary school. We mostly learnt by heart and copied lessons from the blackboard.

c) Leisure time activities (What ...) – Hoạt động giải trí

*Q:* What did you do in your leisure time?

*A:* In our leisure time, we played traditional games such as hide-and-seek, tug of war and flying kites. We didn't have smartphones or computers, so we often played outdoors with our friends and read books.

d) Summer holiday (How long ...) – Kì nghỉ hè

*Q:* How long was your summer holiday?

*A:* Our summer holiday lasted about three months, from the end of May to the beginning of September. During the holiday, we often helped our parents on the farm and played with the children in the village.

e) Means of transport to school (How ...) – Phương tiện đến trường

*Q:* How did you go to school?

*A:* Most of us walked to school because the school was near our home. Some students who lived far away rode a bicycle or even went on foot for several kilometres. There were very few motorbikes or cars at that time.
