Work in groups – So sánh quá trình đô thị hoá ở Việt Nam với Ma-lai-xi-a và/hoặc Ô-xtrây-li-a

Dưới đây là bài nói mẫu (model answer) dựa trên số liệu trong phần Writing và Culture/CLIL của bài học:

*In our group, we compared urbanisation in Viet Nam, Malaysia and Australia and reached the following conclusions.*

a) So sánh tỉ lệ dân thành thị trong những năm 1970 (higher or lower?)

In the 1970s, the proportion of the urban population in Viet Nam was much lower than that in Malaysia and Australia. At that time, only a small part of Vietnamese people (around 18%) lived in cities, while Malaysia's figure was higher (about one third of the population) and Australia was already highly urbanised (over 80%). *So Viet Nam started from a very low level compared with the other two countries.*

b) Nước nào có tốc độ đô thị hoá nhanh hơn? (faster urbanisation rate)

Viet Nam has the fastest urbanisation rate of the three. Over the last few decades the urban population in Viet Nam (and also in Malaysia) has grown very quickly, whereas in Australia the rate of increase is slow because the country was already highly urbanised. *Viet Nam is catching up rapidly.*

c) Nước nào đô thị hoá nhiều hơn / cao nhất? (more urbanised)

Australia is the most urbanised country, with the highest proportion of people living in cities (around 85–86%). Malaysia comes next, and Viet Nam is still the least urbanised of the three, although the gap is narrowing.

d) Xu hướng chung ở mỗi nước (overall trend)

The overall trend in all three countries is a steady increase in the urban population.
- In Viet Nam and Malaysia, urbanisation is rising fast as more people move from the countryside to the cities.
- In Australia, the level is already very high and keeps rising but much more slowly.

*In conclusion, Viet Nam began with the lowest urban proportion in the 1970s and is now urbanising the fastest, Australia remains the most urbanised, and all three countries show an upward trend in urbanisation.*
